Redcord therapy helps patients with neuromuscular injuries build strength, stability

A new type of physical therapy looks like it is designed for olympic-level gymnasts, but it is actually used to give strength and stability back to patients who have suffered neuromuscular injuries.
Joe Jackson loves riding his motorycle, but in September of 2008, he feared his motorcycle days were over. "I sustained a fractured or broken elbow on the inside part of my elbow, where my tendons and muscle connect to the anchoring part of my elbow," Jackson said. He noticed a difference in range and strength in the very first week of therapy. Thanks to the red cord, Jackson's elbow is as good as new.

ActivCore succeeds in targeting core musculature because of the instability it safely introduces into a multitude of exercises...This creates controlled instability as the client must first find neutral alignment with legs parallel aligned under each sit bone. As the exercise progresses, the client abducts the legs while keeping the pelvis level and the legs opening an equal distance from the mid line
“ActivCore is the opportunity we’ve been looking for years for,” states Dr. Howard Sichel, Chairman and Founder of WIM. “We
believe ActivCore FEX™ will be the next big movement in fitness, wellness and therapy markets because of the ability to recruit
and activate the deep stabilizing muscles that are so important for daily function. We are seeing amazing results. Most
importantly, it can be used by people of all ages and capabilities to improve functional performance and enhance well-being.”
An aching back once made UCSB's Anne Marie May feel like she were on a Mission: Impossible every time she dove into a pool.
But now she only looks like Tom Cruise when she's training with Redcord, a neuromuscular system from Norway that often suspends the Gauchos' All-America swimmer above the floor in a contraption of straps and pulleys.
"I've tried to explain it to other athletes, because I think it could help so many of them who live with chronic pain," May said.

“Core strength” seems to be a new buzz word in the fitness industry, but don’t let the recent media hype fool you! Core strength has been targeted for years by athletic coaches and dancers for the improved performance and injury prevention it provides. Of course Pilates is fabulous for developing core strength, but a NEW system that recently arrived in America from Norway increases core strength in an even better way!
ActivCore FEX uses a system of ropes and slings to provide controlled instability and thus challenge the involuntary muscles of the body safely and effectively. The system activates the right muscles in the right amount at the right time, which is the key to achieving optimal performance. Clients of all ages and fitness levels can benefit from the exercises as the exercises are easily modified to challenge the body – or make the body feel weightless!
