Karri West is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) who treats the whole person through an integrated approach that combines pelvic health, orthopedics and functional medicine. She works at Activcore in Castle Rock, Colorado.
Karri graduated from Texas Christian University (go Frogs!) with a degree in Kinesiology. She then earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Azusa Pacific University in Southern California. While in physical therapy school, she developed a passion for holistic healing. This passion led her to a wellness center in Fort Worth, Texas where she was connected to a pelvic health physical therapist. Karri spent the next two years learning and practicing pelvic health PT combined with functional medicine, incorporating protocols into her physical therapy treatments which included nutrition, stress reduction, supplements and detoxing. Most recently, she has been learning how to provide pelvic fitness through the teachings of Becky Keller, the nation's leading authority in Low Pressure Fitness.
As a Colorado native, Karri grew up in a very active environment. She loved playing sports and most days would have 3 athletic practices in a row. As a competitive cheerleader and soccer player, she understood the importance of movement and knew she would eventually pursue a career that incorporated it. She was also very interested in the human body and amazed by all it could do. With these two areas of interest, physical therapy became the perfect fit.
Karri's mom was a huge influence in her life. When she was 3 years old, her mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and battled it for 25 years. Seeing her mom's journey (and wanting to minimize her own risk) led Karri to functional medicine. Today, she believes that if we give our bodies the right tools, it is able to heal itself.
In particular, Karri enjoys working with active female populations. She helps women prepare for childbirth delivery, and then gets them back to their favorite physical activities postpartum. She helps cheerleaders through sport-specific injury rehab to get them back on the mat. And she helps soccer players get back safely onto the field.
Karri doesn't apply PT in isolation. Rather she tries to include movement, nutrition, stress management and detoxing into her treatments. She truly believes that people are healthiest when they are physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually whole!
In her free time, Karri likes to travel, workout, and be outside with her husband and chocolate lab, Nash!
Dr. Karri is passionate about the benefits of low pressure fitness to strengthen the pelvic floor. I enjoyed learning from her and have found improvement in my health from applying the breathing techniques that she taught.
I was pregnant and expecting my first child, and didn’t really know where to start to prepare for delivery. Dr. Karri helped me start to finish to ensure my pregnancy and delivery went as smoothly as possible from a pelvic floor standpoint. The exercises and movements she encouraged me to do, were not complicated or hard to do but it made such a huge impact in the delivery. The videos she sent me were easy to follow and I built them into my regular day while watching TV. My baby was born on his due date because my water broke naturally and I swear it’s because I was doing all the things Dr. Karri told me to do! I am now recovering well and still working to build back my core strength with her help. I can’t thank Dr. Karri enough for her expertise!
I had to have a c-section with my first child and wanted to be as prepared as possible to attempt a VBAC with my second child. I found Dr. Karri and can say with confidence that her knowledge and expertise is one of the main reasons I had a successful VBAC. She helped me understand and strengthen my pelvic floor and she continues to help in my recovery from delivery. So grateful to Karri and can’t stress enough the value of pelvic floor therapy!
Dr. Karri West is absolutely amazing! I went to her about 6 months ago and I had started seeing progress almost immediately. The pelvic pain I had endured over the course of 2 years went away within a couple of sessions with her, along with the exercises and dilators she had recommended to me. The environment was always comfortable and the staff very friendly. I would highly recommend coming here and getting the help you may need with them. I am forever grateful to her for helping me!
