Justine Calderwood works at Activcore in Colorado Springs. She specializes in women’s health physical therapy during pregnancy and postpartum and has been serving the Colorado Springs area for many years (as founder of The Healing Spot). Her passion lies in helping women alleviate pain, build confidence, and trust their bodies before and after childbirth. Justine is dedicated to preparing women for their chosen birthing experience, whether at home, a birth center, or hospital, ensuring they feel ready and confident.
In addition to her focus on pregnancy, Justine works with postpartum women to address issues such as pain, incontinence, prolapse, and diastasis. Her goal is to empower women to regain confidence, trust in their bodies, and return to activities like exercise, hiking, and running. However, Justine’s expertise extends beyond motherhood; she welcomes anyone experiencing core or pelvic floor concerns, including bowel or bladder changes, pelvic pain, pain with intercourse, and persistent back, hip, pelvic, or head/jaw pain.
Additionally Justine helps women heal from chronic and complex pain and is a trauma-informed therapist. She helps women with layers of trauma feel safe during treatment and feel better. She has studied directly under John F Barnes in Myofascial Release Therapy and uses her extensive training to help women feel better, even when other treatment approaches have failed.
Justine aims to provide a unique and personalized approach to patient care. Frustrated with the lack of continuity and rushed sessions in traditional healthcare, she ensures her patients receive the time, attention, and resources needed for true recovery. Justine’s small-town Iowa upbringing influenced her commitment to integrity and nurturing in delivering high quality care.
With a Master’s Degree in Physical Therapy from The University of Kansas Medical Center (2002), Justine holds certifications as a Birth Healing Practitioner, Advanced Myofascial Release Therapist, Reiki Master Practitioner, Certified Low-Pressure Fitness Trainer and Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach.
Beyond her professional pursuits, she enjoys spending quality time with her family, working out at the gym and home, hiking with her two Vizsla dogs, and engaging in adventurous family activities like traveling, scuba diving, exploring the outdoors, and gatherings with friends and family.
Justine is an amazing physical therapist with a wealth of knowledge about the pelvic floor. Over the course of a few months, she was able to help resolve issues I had been dealing with for years. She is very thorough in her care. You can tell she genuinely wants to help you get to the root of your problem. I would highly recommend her to anyone!
I drove two hours to have an appointment with Justine. She is the most knowledgeable practitioner I’ve been to, but also extremely human and compassionate. Justine was able to help me quite a bit with my back pain within the first two hours of treatment. Her treatments get to the root cause of the problem and are tailored to the individual, not just a gym program you could go on your own. Real hands-on PT. Come see Justine, she is worth it!
This Physical therapy is a wealth of knowledge, understanding, learning, and overall a safe place. I had Gender Reassignment Surgery (GRS) earlier in the year. And I was having some issues before I went here. Justine not only helped me through my issues, but was willing to learn and guide me through my recovery. I highly recommend this to anyone who has pelvic floor issues, from surgery or to a recent pregnancy. Justine and her team are amazing.
Justine was so kind and helpful throughout my healing journey, personalizing care and being very attentive to my particular needs. She’s very knowledgeable and really helps you understand what’s going on and how to care for yourself, too. Absolutely recommend wholeheartedly!
Love this practice! The physical support from Justine was integral to experiencing a nearly pain-free second pregnancy- we’re talking better than the first! Justine and her team also hold so much tenderness for the pregnant and postpartum season, she provided exactly the support and encouragement I needed as I prepared for my second home birth during an especially hectic time. They are a special team!
After having a hysterectomy and prolapse repair in February of 2024 I found myself in constant pain. After many trips back to the doctor I was told nothing was wrong. The doctors suggested I go see a pelvic floor therapist. ( I had never heard of a pelvic floor therapist and I’m in my 60’s). After trying 2 different therapist and having little relief I finally found Justine. She’s amazing and is so passionate about what she does. She listen to me and with her expertise was able to help me find relief from the constant pain. She also taught me some tools that I can use now and in the future if the pain returns. I finally feel normal again!!! Thank you so much Justine!!!
Justine and her team have been truly instrumental in my healing journey both physically and emotionally. Chronic pelvic, abdominal, and lower back pain has been a part of my life for over 9 years without a diagnosed cause. While I will not claim Justine has supernatural powers lol, she did bring so much awareness into my life about patterns I have held that perpetuated the pain. Each of her techniques, to include myofascial release, internal pelvic bowl work, and hypopressive exercises, have played a vital role in my healing. I am not 100% free of pain, but I am well on the path to be, and Justine's healing hands and open heart have been such a huge part of that. I recommend her support and expertise to any woman who feels trapped with her pelvic/low back pain, and feels she has run out of answers. She is truly a gift.
I had such a positive experience working with Justine. After I had my baby I felt discouraged and overwhelmed by my healing journey but gained so much confidence while working with Justine. She always listened so well to my concerns and was so helpful in giving me all the information and tools I needed to become stronger and achieve my goals. Justine is incredibly thoughtful and kind and every time I left a session I was encouraged and motivated. I now have the tools and motivation to continue on this healing journey! I am definitely stronger and far ahead in my journey because of Justine!
I can’t say enough good things about Justine and her team. After struggling with chronic back pain postpartum, I was feeling discouraged and unsure how to reconnect with my body. From my very first session, Justine made me feel heard, supported, and empowered in my healing journey. She has an incredible ability to pinpoint the root cause of discomfort and provides tailored exercises and hands-on techniques that have truly made a difference. Not only has my pain improved significantly, but I also feel more confident in my body and my ability to listen to what it needs. Her approach is both professional and compassionate—she takes the time to explain everything and ensures I feel comfortable every step of the way. I would highly recommend Justine to anyone looking for pelvic floor physical therapy, whether postpartum or beyond.
I was skeptical at first when I came here but Justine is so knowledgeable and really breaks it all down for you so that you understand. I had Shockwave Therapy done over 6 sessions and it really helped me with my tailbone pain! You should check it out.
This is exactly what I needed as I prepared for my first pregnancy with twins. Justine communicated well, always thoroughly explaining treatments and exercises. I always felt comfortable and my body was well prepared for birth and recovery. I would recommend her to anyone looking for a skilled and well-informed pelvic floor expert. So glad I found her!
I had a wonderful experience working with Justine. She is trauma informed in her approach, meaning she explains what she will be doing thoroughly beforehand, which I found to be very comforting. I didn’t realize how important being trauma informed and having transparent communication in a physical therapy session was until I experienced it with Justine. Justine focuses on teaching her patients about their bodies and provides education around what certain exercises do. I found her teaching style to be informative and empowering so that I can continue engaging in these exercises and lifestyle changes on my own. I really appreciate all the work Justine and her team are doing and providing women. Justine is helping women fight against societal messaging that we have to just accept that our bodies don’t work the same after giving birth. I feel like my pelvic floor is getting stronger with all the tools Justine has given me and my symptoms are greatly improving. I so appreciate Justine sharing that common symptoms women experience after giving birth are NOT a normal body reaction and there are ways to fix it. I highly recommend women to see Justine to help with pelvic floor issues. It doesn’t matter how long ago you had your kids, it’s never too late to improve your body and heal your symptoms!!!
Such an amazing experience with Justine and her team. After dealing with "normal" issues that seemed to only get worse, I decided to reach out. I wasn't sure what to expect but I was desperate to heal my body and the issues I was having. Four kids in 4 years… and 7 years postpartum… I was still dealing with stuff that should have been getting better but they were actually getting worse. Justine helped give me the quality of life back that I gave up because I thought the things I was dealing with were normal and just a part of life. The work in the appointments and the work you put in-between will make the difference you wish to see. I'm still healing but further along than I thought I would ever be. I'm running again and ran my first mile today for the first time in 7+ years without issues. Before therapy, I couldn't even run 30 seconds without experiencing the symptoms I had. Pelvic Floor Therapy is something that I wish was shared about more and encouraged as an option to heal. You don't have to deal with "normal" just because it's common. My only regret is that I waited so long and didn't reach out sooner. Thanks Justine and team for encouraging the healing and giving the tools needed. I'll continue to use them forever.
I have struggled with chronic bladder and pelvic floor pain for over a decade and it took having my daughter to give it another shot after trying everything I could think of. I found Justine and it has been the first thing that has really helped me. She doesn’t just use traditional PT methods for women’s health, she focuses on the entire body and also addresses a lot of mental things I didn’t realize were contributing to my pain and discomfort. Ultimately I couldn’t be more thankful to have found this business and if you’re struggling with any pain or health issues, don’t hesitate- I promise it’s worth it!
Justine is incredible! She is one of the kindest, most compassionate, and thorough PTs I've ever worked with. From the first appointment you can tell she truly cares about getting to the root cause of any issues and patiently works with you to help resolve them. As a busy mom with two young kids, Justine's methods were exactly what I needed and her support was fantastic- she understands we don't always have all the time in the world to work on ourselves, so she provides manageable rehab opportunities to lead you to success, no matter your schedule. I highly recommend her & am honestly a little bummed my sessions with her are complete. :)
