Son Ah Yun is a performance specialist at Activcore with certifications in Pilates and Redcord. She works at the Activcore studio in Atlanta, Georgia, located just 2 miles from Emory University.

Son Ah found Pilates after having her second child in 2007 and exploring ways to find healthy ways of moving while balancing a demanding career that required extensive travel. Then a pelvic fracture from an accident in 2013 followed by spine surgery had her seeking out Pilates even more as a way to get back to moving and healing. Throughout the years it’s come to light that herself, mom and children all suffer from pars interarticularis defect motivating her to explore deeper into Pilates and sought out getting her intermediate teacher training certificate in pilates in 2013 from The Pilates Center, a worldwide comprehensive and rigorous classical teacher training. After a family member experienced a traumatic spinal cord injury in 2019 she was driven to further her knowledge and purpose as a Pilates student and teacher and completed The Pilates Center’s bridge Advanced Teacher Training program. With over 950 hours of training, she is excited to work with clients on their journey to health and healing, thereby “Return to Life”. She also completed Redcord’s Active Intro and Multi-suspension courses in 2017.

Son Ah holds a B.S. in Anthropology and Human Biology Studies and Women’s Students from Emory University. She also has a Masters degree in Social Work with a focus on Social Economic Development for Women from Washington University.

When not in the studio teaching, you will find Son Ah in the gym lifting weights in an effort to ward off a family history of severe osteoporosis. She enjoys traveling, eating good food, and continuing to expand her knowledge of movement through Pilates, Redcord suspension, and other modalities.

Son Ah is a wife and mother to two humans, two toy poodles and one cat. She was born in Seoul, Korea, immigrated to Georgia and now lives in Smyrna, GA.

My Reviews

As someone who has been doing Pilates for 8 years around Atlanta, this place is the real deal AND gems of people to work with. From the front desk staff, Jess, Jessi and Joni… to the Pilates Instructors, Clare, Son Ah, Darlene, Hoon and Mary…. I cannot say enough how much they are all a part of my mental and physical health and well being. I do Redcord and Pilates, one-on-one and semi groups. This place is my sanctuary and keeps me healthy, strong and always bettering myself! Thank you ALLLLL for working with me and always having a smile and helping me leave life at the door!

I have been taking private pilates classes with Son Ah Yun on and off over the last year. Son Ah is very knowledgeable and engaging at once. She challenges and motivates while focusing on the fundamentals of form and balance while fully explaining the key steps and target goals. She immediately detected some of my issues and has been pushing me to get stronger where I need it most (hello stiff feet and ankles). Her detailed, highly-instructive hands-on cues and her positive attitude + loving spirit make Son Ah the perfect teacher! Anyone would be lucky to learn from her.

I love working with Son Ah Yun! I have learned so much about Pilates, including my technique and body form. Her teaching style is precise and masterful. She is knowledgeable, patient and has a way about her that resonates no matter where you are in your practice, from beginner to advanced. I highly recommend booking a session with her. I always look forward to our sessions (plus she’s just cool)!

My Pilates experience with Son Ah Yun at Activcore has been nothing short of exceptional. From the moment I stepped into the studio, I felt welcomed into a warm and supportive environment. However, it was the expertise and genuine care of my instructor that truly set this experience apart. I had the pleasure of being guided by Son Ah, who exudes warmth and sincerity from the very beginning. Her knowledge of Pilates was immediately evident, but it was her genuine concern for her clients' well-being that truly stood out. Just a few appointments into my Pilates journey, I was diagnosed with a cervical issue. Naturally, I was concerned about how this would impact my ability to continue with the sessions. However, Son Ah immediately put me at ease. With her expertise, she made necessary modifications to the movements, ensuring that there was no discomfort to the affected area. What struck me the most was Son Ah's dedication to my progress and safety. She took the time to thoroughly understand my condition and adapted each session accordingly. Her attention to detail and personalized approach not only prevented further discomfort but also allowed me to continue my Pilates practice with confidence. I can wholeheartedly recommend Son Ah to anyone seeking a Pilates experience that goes beyond the physical. Her commitment to providing personalized care and guidance sets her apart, making every session a truly transformative and enriching experience.

I worked with Son Ah and she helped me with getting a great foundation of Pilates. I had very little Pilates experience and she was so knowledgeable about the method and very detailed with all the choreography. I was studying to be a Pilates teacher and she helped me to understand the choreography on a deeper level. She is reliable and very passionate about Pilates and will be your Pilates advocate.

As someone with a spinal cord injury who has spent countless hours in various forms of pt/exercise, I can confidently say that my sessions with Son Ah Yun have been unique and remarkable. What sets her apart is her holistic approach to Pilates. She doesn’t just focus on “working out” - she views the entire body as a cohesive unit, understanding that true strength and wellness stem from challenging the body while simultaneously nurturing it. She is very hands-on and always provides insightful cues for proper alignment, utilizing a variety of equipment and adaptations. Every session is different, showcasing her knowledge of Pilates and further instilling confidence and trust in her guidance. Son Ah has a calming presence and is a true healer; having gone through her own physical challenges, she possesses a lot of compassion for her students. She will challenge you, educate you, and help you reach your mind/body goals.
