Activcore Golf

A smarter, more scientific approach to treating golfers

Contrary to most people’s belief, golf is a very physically demanding sport that requires lots of joint mobility and stability. The rotational forces on the extremities and axial skeleton make the body vulnerable to injuries at various points of stress in the golf swing. Often a decrease in mobility in one area leads to an increased load on the neighboring joint. With multiple repetition over 18 holes or more, these rotational forces compound themselves and potentially cause overuse or strain/sprain type injuries.

At Activcore, we use the Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) model of assessing the body for physical limitations that may arise in the golf swing. Using a rigorous assessment process and extensive data that Titleist has collected on thousands of golfers (both amateur and professional), we know how one’s body should move in order to facilitate a mechanically sound golf swing. When we identify these physical limitations in your body, we can then implement a plan of care that addresses them. Through a smart and specific movement based assessment for golf, we can also reduce the incidence of injury, improve performance, and keep you on the golf course longer.

What happens when your body gets in the way of playing golf?

• Neck and low back pain
• Shoulder and elbow pain
• Thoracic stiffness
• Hip tightness
• Core weakness

• Loss of swing velocity
• Inconsistent ball contact
• Fatigue on the back-9
• Decreased mobility into backswing and follow through

While these conditions are common among golfers, they are not normal and should be addressed by a qualified practitioner.

A Neuromuscular Approach

Most golfers will develop pain or sustain an injury in their neck and/or back at some point, but that doesn’t mean the problem starts or ends there. For many athletes, the underlying cause of musculoskeletal pain comes from a lack of coordination and control of the muscles that stabilize movements in your shoulders, pelvis, hips, spine and extremities.

The ability to properly sequence how all of these pieces work together as a unit is called neuromuscular control. Many physical events (sports injuries, orthopedic surgeries, changes in the body as a young athlete grows, etc.) can disrupt the way your neuromuscular system functions. Over time, the brain loses its capacity to switch on the right muscles, at the right time, with the right amount of strength. A process known as neuromuscular de-activation.

As you lose muscle control, there's a tendency for the body to put abnormal stress on your joints in an attempt to maintain the same level of activity. This can often lead to a vicious cycle of pain, weakness and dysfunction.

At Activcore, we can reverse this cycle through a unique neuromuscular approach, called Redcord.

How can Activcore help?

Working with golfers is typically not a big part of a physical therapist’s education. It is a specialization requiring much further study, training and practice following graduation.

Activcore physical therapists are uniquely qualified to assess and treat golfers. At every session, you will receive 55 minutes of undivided attention from a physical therapist specializing in golf. This one-on-one approach allows your physical therapist to complete a comprehensive assessment, develop an individualized treatment plan, and get the most out of you at every visit for the fastest results possible.

The assessment involves your whole body to identify not only the site of injury, but the true source of your pain, weakness and dysfunction. Addressing the underlying cause is absolutely essential for healing an injury, preventing recurrence, and keeping you healthy and at a peak level of performance.

Once your pain has been addressed, you will have the opportunity to continue honing your movement through performance training. When you maximize how your body moves in the golf swing, you also maximize the opportunity for improvements in club head speed, power, distance, and consistency.

You will feel the Activcore difference from your first visit. This is a highly personalized experience applying the latest breakthrough techniques in the treatment and training of golfers, delivered by a passionate team of movement experts fully dedicated to getting you back to the sport you love to play.

Activcore Success Stories

What are our clients saying about us?

When I first met Bryan Lynd at Activcore my goal was clear: to walk onto the first tee at the senior men’s club championship as a 55 year old and have my competitors be intimidated by having to play such a youthful and athletic golfer. Not only did I achieve this, but I won the championship. Working with Bryan I was able to overcome a labral tear in my shoulder and avoid having to get surgery. Using the Redcord system I have been able to strengthen my core and continue to improve my golf game as I get older.

Matt M., 2019 Senior Men’s Club Champion, Winged Foot G.C.

Activcore is unlike anything I have ever experienced. One patient, one provider, one hour – one at a time, every time. If you’re serious about your physical therapy and recovery, this is the only place to go!

Michael

I was looking for assistance with my golf clients who were dealing with pain while trying to play. Luckily I met Bryan, and after talking with and being treated by him I was very confident in his abilities as a therapist and was able to refer my clients to him. From there, we formed a partnership in which we put clients through the TPI golf mobility screen, as well as a TPI performance screen. Thanks to Bryan and his extremely detailed work assessing movement, pain, and dysfunction, our clients had a detailed plan in place from the very first assessment.

Keiran Halton, Golf Performance Coach

Partnering with a TPI Medical Professional has been a huge benefit in helping my students improve their swing. Everyone's physical make up is different, so it is imperative to understand the limitations of my students. By partnering with a therapist, we can discuss what needs to be done in order to help a student with their game. The TPI approach to instruction is vital. Having Dr. Bryan Lynd in my corner has helped take my instruction to another level!
