Shawna Poltricitsky is a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) who specializes in pelvic health, women's health, orthopedics and manual therapy. She works at Activcore in Bernardsville, New Jersey.
Shawna received her DPT degree from Rutgers University in 2018. She then started her physical therapy career focusing on orthopedics, post-operative care, and sports medicine. During that time, she earned her certification as a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS). Additionally, she has taken classes in the Mulligan Concept of manual therapy.
While working in various orthopedic settings over the years, Shawna discovered an array of patients suffering from conditions that appear to be related to the pelvic floor, especially during pregnancy and postpartum (even years after). She also noticed how little information and guidance is provided to these patients, or how unheard they feel.
From there, Shawna made the switch to specialize in pelvic floor PT. She obtained several certifications from Herman & Wallace in the management and treatment of female and male anatomy, visceral (organ) manipulation, and myofascial mobilizations. With her passion for physical fitness, she also became a Certified Pregnancy and Postpartum Corrective Exercise Specialist (PCES).
In the conventional clinic model, Shawna found it nearly impossible to provide high-quality care while seeing multiple patients per hour. So she joined Activcore to provide a more personalized, one-on-one experience that gets the most out of each person (and herself) for the best results possible.
Shawna bridges her orthopedic and pelvic health training to provide a whole-body approach. She enjoys working with active young and older adults, with the goal of returning to the activity and/or lifestyle that they love. She also enjoys working with patients suffering from urinary and digestive dysfunction as well as pelvic pain syndromes. She ensures a safe and inclusive environment to empower and educate her patients throughout the healing journey.
When not in the clinic, you will often see Shawna hiking, rock climbing, or surfing. She also enjoys spending time with her loving husband and their English Bulldog, Petunia.
I’ve been receiving treatment from Dr. Shawna for the last three months. She is absolutely wonderful. Over the last several years, I have had a number of UTIs and was initially diagnosed with prostatitis. Shawna’s high quality care and attention to detail allowed her to identify the actual cause of my symptoms, pelvic floor dysfunction. Through a personalized and carefully-tailored regimen, Shawna has helped to treat my symptoms and alleviate my chronic discomfort. She also does it with an excellent bedside manner and is always upbeat and filled with positive energy. I highly recommend Shawna for your pelvic floor physical therapy needs.
I am on a second phase of my treatment with Dr. Shawna Poltricitsky and am delighted to work with her. She is very attuned to my performance with home exercises and regularly checks to make sure I am doing them correctly. Shawna believes in quality over quantity. Because of this monitoring, she will adjust or change my routine at home as needed. She has expertise in pelvic health but is also very knowledgeable in physical therapy and incorporates it into the sessions. For example, Shawna has also addressed my poor posture. She has made nutritional suggestions to improve my lifestyle. The conversation during the appointment is priceless and she will take the time to discuss any issues that I may have. She is very upbeat, and the appointment is fun. I go home feeling good about myself with confidence.
I have been working primarily with Dr. Shawna Poltricitsky for the last few months and have had such a positive experience. As someone with a complicated medical situation I was worried I wouldn't be understood but the moment I met Shawna I was so impressed by her extensive knowledge and whole body approach. She was not the least bit intimidated by the complexity of my case and has provided me excellent care since I started coming here.
I looked forward to physical therapy here. Dr. Shawna is incredible! She listens intently to concerns you have, and is able to pinpoint where and why you have issues, and then work through them. Her great personality is a bonus.
