If you're an Activcore client, you probably already know that we combine physical therapy and fitness into a total body experience. This integrated approach helps you get and stay out of pain, age well, and feel empowered to be fully engaged in your life. Our team members frequently trade services because we know the power and efficacy of working as a team focused on your health and well being.

Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing stories about how our physical therapists and performance specialists work together.

So let's start with Dr. Kate Mosteller and Lillie Johnson from our Druid Hills studio in Atlanta, GA.

Dr. Kate holds a Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree from Emory University. She also went through a residency program at Emory to become a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Her treatment approach encompasses various techniques, including manual therapy, cupping, dry needling, mobility, and strength training. Dr. Kate's expertise allows her to provide comprehensive care to her clients, supporting them in their journey towards optimal physical health.

Lillie Johnson specializes in Pilates and CORE Suspension, and she has started to incorporate strength and conditioning training for her clients. Lillie has faced physical challenges stemming from past injuries, particularly affecting her head, neck, and shoulders. To further enhance her own fitness journey, she turns to physical therapy, seeking occasional treatment from Dr. Kate.

Lillie's experience with physical therapy has proven invaluable in advancing her fitness journey. By incorporating occasional sessions with Dr. Kate, she finds relief from pain that allows her to maintain her busy teaching schedule and her acting career. Lillie's Pilates, strength training, and Redcord practice benefit immensely from the treatments, allowing her to push her limits and achieve new levels of performance.

Dr. Kate, on the other hand, sought out Lillie's expertise in Pilates to focus on core work and breath control. Under Lillie's guidance, Dr. Kate has started to incorporate Pilates principles with her weightlifting and cardio routines. Lillie's expert instruction has helped Dr. Kate break through plateaus and elevate her training.

Their exchange of knowledge, support, and guidance highlights the value of a multi-dimensional approach to fitness and wellness, where the integration of different disciplines unlocks new levels of achievement. Whether you’re considering starting physical therapy or performance training at Activcore, we encourage you to talk with your provider about whether an integrated approach would be appropriate for your situation.

Whether it's overcoming physical challenges, pushing through plateaus, or maximizing potential, the combination of performance and physical therapy services can help you reach your goals faster and sustain your progress over time.

Standing on Two Feet: Balance Training Progression Exercises

In last week’s blog post about Balance from the Ground Up, we provided a simple exercise for opening up and providing proprioceptive input to the feet. This week, I am building on that foundation with a series of deceptively simple exercises that you can do to improve your proprioception while developing foot, ankle and calf strength.

Don’t Just Look Strong. Be Strong Functionally.

The kettlebell is a physical training tool that has given rise to a great selection of very functional strength training exercises. The shape of the kettlebell is a ball with a handle, which makes it functionally similar to objects that we carry in everyday life, such as luggage and grocery bags.

Tackling a Spartan Race at Age 50: Overcoming Some Hurdles

A key feature of Spartan races is hurdling. Not like track hurdles, but having to jump or scramble all manner of objects and obstacles in an often muddy environment. As I worked through my training plan to get myself ready to tackle the literal hurdles in the race, I encountered some figurative ones too.
